Tea: It's What's for Dinner

Mar. 9th, 2010

Tea, glorious tea. The miracle beverage. It cures all ails...it can keep you warm, comfort you when you're sick, pick you up when you have no energy. And it can poach your fish. What? Yes, why yes it can. Tea can impart a ton of flavor in a lot simple dishes. You can put a pot of water on the stove and add your favorite smoky black tea. As it comes to a boil, drop in a few filets of fish. Turn off the burner and let that tea work its magic. You'll have a truly delicious fish dinner in a matter of minutes. You could also apply this same technique with a chicken breast. Boiling some edamame beans for a party snack? Boil them in an earthy, toasty green tea. Cooking some udon noodles for ramen? That's right- drop them in a boiling pot of tea. In addition, think about any recipe that calls for water or liquid of some sort- waffles, muffins, cookies. Substitute tea and you've added a whole new layer of flavor. Pomegranate white tea & cranberry waffles! Chai tea spiced oatmeal cookies!  Think outside the (tea) box and the opportunities are endless.
