Dining at the Supermarket - Brooklyn's Fairway Market

I have spoken before about my love for Red Hook's Fairway Market. A farmer's market, organic health food store, supermarket, prime meats butcher and gourmet food shop in one, its a true foodie destination for any gastronomically obsessed New Yorker.

But more than just a shopping destination, Fairway is a fabulous place to grab lunch - and definitely the most reasonable place to catch such jaw-dropping views of the New York harbor. Squint just a bit when you look at the photo above - that's Lady Liberty herself you can see in the distance.

Food is purchased at the lunch counter, which offers an array of freshly prepared sandwiches, paninis, pizzas and salads - even lobster rolls. Prices are reasonable, if not downright cheap. My overstuffed Tuna Melt was oozing with sharp cheddar cheese, and accompanied by a fresh salad of mesclun greens and grape tomatoes, and a handful of thick-cut potato chips. The price? Under 6 bucks. My friends' equally yummy pressed sandwich was a combo of artichoke hearts and roasted tomatoes and slathered with pesto. Delish.

Seating is picnic-table style, and open-aired in the warmer months. In the winter, the smaller area is enclosed and heated, but still affords the same gorgeous views.
