Glossary: Trappist beer
Dating back to the Middle Ages, Trappist beers are any of the ales produced by the six brewing abbeys still in existence (Schaapskooi in the Netherlands; Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, St. Sixtus and Westmalle in Belgium). They're generally dark amber to brown in color, strongly flavored and range in alcohol from about 6 to 12 percent. See also beer.
