  • 2 pound fish fillets fresh or frozen
  • oil for deepfrying
  • lemon juice
  • 1 cup all purpose flour sifted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 12 fluid ounce bottle beer

Recipe Method

1. If using frozen fish, thaw fish until fillets can be separated easily.

2. Heat oil to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) in deep saucepan or electric deep fryer. Fill pan about 1/3 full of oil. Cut fish into serving-size pieces. Sprinkle lightly with lemon juice.

3. Sift 1 cup (250 ml) flour, salt and paprika into mixing bowl. Add beer gradually, beating until batter is smooth.

4. Fry in hot oil about 4 minutes, turning once. Batter should be dark golden brown and crisp and fish should be cooked through. Drain on paper toweling. Serve very hot.
