Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 pound (1 box) confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Recipe Method

1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease 2 (9") cake pans.

2. In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda.

3. Add oil, vinegar, vanilla and 2 cups of cold water: beat with mixer on medium until well combined.

4. Evenly divide batter among pans and bake for 30 minutes or until wooden toothpick comes out clean and center is springy to the touch.

5. Let cool for 5 minutes in pan on wire rack. Remove from pans and let cool completely on wire rack.

6. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, beat butter, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla and milk until smooth.
